One of the products of this recession (which I’d argue is a good thing) is that the author/speaker model of making a living is pretty much gone by the wayside. In addition to the collapse of the Christian conference carnival (which Andrew Jones has argued quite effectively was unsustainable anyway), the era of authors churning out books is pretty much over. (Some authors like David Sedaris are recession proof but that’s the rare exception not the norm.) Hopefully having authors get off the hamster wheel will give their work time to breathe like fine wine.
